Sports Coach Level 4 Summary
Apprenticeship programme (18 months typically)
• On-the job training should be a minimum of 12 months
• Must achieve level 2 English and maths (if not already achieved)*discretions apply for EHCPs and British Sign Language qualifications
End-Point Assessment Gateway
Employer confirms the apprentice is consistently working at or above the full level or standard
English and maths certificates checked
Project outlines need to be uploded onto ACE360 – see toolkits for further support
Coaching session oultines uploaded to ACE360
Portfolio of evidence added to ACE360 with mapping documents

End-Point Assessment (typically 6 months)
• Assessment Method 1 Component 2: work based project and report (12 weeks maximum)
• Assessment Method 1 Component 2: presentation with questioning (submit with report)
• Assessment Method 2 Component 1: coaching session plan
• Assessment Method 2 Component 2: practical observation with questioning
• Assessment Method 3: professional discussion underpinned by portfolio
• Final decisions and grade confirmed (Fail, Pass, Distinction)

Gateway Requirements
EPA should only start once the employer is confident that the apprentice is consistently working at or above the level set out in the standard, the pre-requisite gateway requirements for EPA have been met and that they can be evidenced to an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO). Employers may wish to take advice from their apprentice’s training provider(s).
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking end-point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to English qualifications for those whom this is their primary language.
